The department of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation was incubated in the year 2003 with the approval of the Executive Council, The University of Burdwan as the university that there is a dire need for such a department whose curriculum should match exactly with the core sector industries. The department was initially opened with an intake capacity of 30 which was increased to 60 from the academic session 2004. Since its inception, the department has been very successful in nurturing and grooming a good band of students who have left their footprints in different spheres of technological power houses, R & D sectors and fields of higher education. Now that already 8 batches have passed out from the department, it is going for NBA accreditation.
To create an Institution for higher technical Education, dedicated to the cause of developing professional with high sense of ethical values and commitment to the society, where student shall realize their potentials and learn to be future torch bearers of evolving Technologies , through inculcation of proper attitude, appropriation of tradition and heritage and fostering of originality so as to be capable of functioning without being influenced by malice of caste, creed, political and religious dogmas.
AEIE by virtue of its cutting edge quality of education, the uniqueness of its teaching-learning process and the continuous emphasis on the all-round development of students, has created a niche for itself. A harmonious integration of valued traditions with modern outlook is the guiding principle behind the development of academic environment of the Institute.
Besides the required curricular activities, students are exposed to a number of other programmes like group discussions, interactive seminars, brain storming sessions etc. – all designed to expand and bring about qualitative growth. Through such programmes, students are constantly motivated and encouraged to develop their leadership qualities and improve their communication abilities. There is a constant endeavour on the part of the members of faculty and staff of the institute to help students in this grooming process.
Although the assessment of the students’ performance is generally guided by the prevalent regulations of the University, the respective course teacher also adopts a continuous evaluation system independently to track and record the overall growth of students.
Model classrooms are equipped with modern teaching aids like LCD projectors with white screen.
Seminars/Workshops on recent developments in technology & management are frequently organized with speakers from academia and industry.
AICTE grant for setting up an Industry-Institute-Partnership Cell has been received for strengthening Industry-Institute-Interaction in the teaching-learning process.
AICTE grant for setting up an Entrepreneurship Development Cell has been received for encouraging entrepreneurship activities.
The Language Lab provides training in spoken English. Mock Interviews are organized so that students can face their job interviews confidently.
Periodical meetings between students & trustees, teachers & parents/guardians are held to get feedback regarding teaching and learning in the Institute.
Unique pedagogical methods are followed throughout the teaching-learning process
The department offers a 4 year full time B.E course on Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering evaluated over eight semesters.

The dept. flaunts of having a good number of well equipped laboratories to support its curriculum. The laboratories are in a continuous mode of upgradation to cope with the advances taking place in the field of engineering and technology. In total, the number of laboratories the dept. has is 12.
There is a well decorated departmental library with several numbers of volumes on almost all titles from reputed authors to support its curriculum structure and resource enhancement for both the faculty members and students. The choice of titles are such that it covers all the subjects taught in the curriculum as well as all interdisciplinary fields related to the course.

The department is the process of taking up several Research and Development based projects in collaboration of the premier R & D Sectors in the country. State and Central DST, CSIR and AICTE are few of the organizations with which the department is the process of going for joint Collaborations.
A. Programs organized by the dept: It is a privilege and honour to announce that the department has very successfully organized a One – Week Faculty and Staff Development Program on Sensing, Computing and Control under the TEQIP – II program during 20 – 25 January, 2014. Several renowned resource personnel both from Industry and Academic Institutes had come to share their very motivating, inspiring and erudite thoughts and knowledge in the fields of Research and Development and the current progresses taking place all across the globe. Several participants from various organizations as well as internal members were greatly benefitted by participating in the technical extravaganza.
B. Programs participated by the faculty and staff members of the dept: All the faculty and staff members of the department are in a continuous mode of improvement by taking part in different Faculty and Staff Development Programs, Seminars, Workshops, Symposiums, National and International Conferences conducted by the reputed and premier institutes and organizations all across the globe.
The department believes that the students should and must have some first-hand experience of how actually a plant / industry functions in actuality. This regard to this quest, the department has started organizing on regular basis an industrial visit for the final year students who are just on the verge of going out and putting their mark of excellence in the real world. Not only it enriches the hands on knowledge of the students but also helps the faculty and staff members to be in constant touch with the most recent progresses that is happening in the business end of the subjects taught. It also helps to prosper the bond between the teachers and students.
2 Days Industrial Visit to Farakka Thermal Power Plant, NTPC, located at Farakka, West Bengal, commencing on the 8th and 9th of February, 2013 for the Batch 2009-2013.
1 Day industrial Visit to Bakreshwar Thermal Project, WBPDCL, situated at Bakreshwar, West Bengal commencing on the 11th of April, 2014 for the Batch 2010-2014.
